In September, Rakkestad kommune granted the project start-up permit for the construction of a cutting-edge carbon capture plant in Rakkestad – the final green light before construction officially began the following week!
This facility will be one of the world's first waste-to-energy plants equipped with a full-scale carbon capture system, and we can’t wait to see it operational in early 2025. This 10,000-ton plant will capture enough CO₂ to fill a truckload of liquid CO₂ every single day – a groundbreaking achievement in the fight against climate change.
Carbon Centric has also announced a new project, assessing large-scale carbon capture at the Norske Skog Skogn paper mill, one of Europe's largest newsprint producers (pictured below). With over 200,000 tonnes of biogenic CO₂ emissions annually, this partnership represents a crucial step in reducing greenhouse gas emissions.
As Kenneth Juul, Chief Commercial Officer of Carbon Centric, puts it, “We are pleased that Norske Skog Skogn AS wants to collaborate with us. Our model helps the industry realize carbon capture faster than has been possible until now. With modular facilities and Carbon Centric’s holistic responsibility for the project, our collaboration partners can contribute to reducing greenhouse gas emissions more quickly, affordably, and with lower risk.”
