The cookie is used to identify individual users behind a shared IP address and use security settings on a per-client basis. For example, if the user is using an open network (eg coffee bar) and there are infected machines on the same network, but the user’s specific machine is trusted, the cookie allows us to identify the client and not to verify that the user is a real person. This does not match any user ID in your web application and does not store personally identifiable information.
