We are thrilled to announce that Solgrid, one of our portfolio companies within Obligo Nordic Climate Impact Fund, has been granted a license by NVE to build Ørje Solar Power Plant in Marker municipality. This will be Norway’s largest solar power plant with a license to date, and it represents a new benchmark in balancing renewable energy development with sustainability and respect for nature.

The Ørje Solar Power Plant is a project designed with nature in mind. Located in a production forest near the E18, the plant will feature thoughtful biodiversity adaptations based on consultation feedback, including reduced panel numbers and preserved vegetation along its edges.

This will make Marker municipality the first in Norway to harness renewable energy from water, wind, and now solar power. With Ørje Solar Power Plant supplying 15 GWh annually (enough for 750 households!), the energy mix becomes more robust, especially during times when other sources face limitations.

Construction is planned to start in the summer of 2025, with the plant becoming operational in early 2026. Equipped with bifacial solar panels, Ørje will deliver clean, renewable energy and help Norway move closer to its climate goals.

This milestone builds on Solgrid’s success with the Furuseth solar power plant, and we’re excited to share what’s next as the company continues to lead the way in solar energy development.
