Congratulations to the Carbon Centric team for achieving an important milestone - the Rakkestad plant has been granted its environmental permit and now Carbon Centric is one step closer to being operational at its first site!

Rakkestad is an EfW plant operated by Østfold Energi that supplies industrial steam and district heating to nearby industrial companies in the region. Once installed, the facility will have a capture capacity of 10,000 tons of CO2 per year, accounting for up to 90% of the CO2 emissions from the combustion process. An off-take agreement is in place for the sale of the captured CO2 for use in the food and beverage industry.

The board of Carbon Centric has taken the final investment decision for the Rakkestad project. Around 100 mNOK will be invested to establish the plant which will be in operation by the end of 2025.

The CEO of Carbon Centric, Fredrik Häger, comments:

"This facility is proof that even smaller incineration plants can utilize carbon capture technology to reduce their emissions. We demonstrate that there is no reason to wait. With our innovative implementation model, we are positioning the company at the forefront of a large international market for carbon capture."

Obligo will continue to support the management of Carbon Centric with the development of their project pipeline and we are looking forward to sharing their progress along the way.
