A landmark milestone - our portfolio company Carbon Centric has officially begun operations at its groundbreaking carbon capture facility in Rakkestad, Norway 🚀

✦ Norway’s first operational carbon capture facility outside the state-led Longship project

✦ The world’s first waste incineration site equipped for full CO₂ capture

✦ Delivery of the first batch of food-grade liquid CO₂ to customers – proving the technology works in practice

With a capacity of ~10,000 tons annually, the plant is among the earliest worldwide to capture COâ‚‚ from waste-to-energy incineration. The purified COâ‚‚ can be used in industrial applications, with certification under FSSC 22000 currently underway with DNV. Pictured is our offtaker, Linde filling up a tanker with liquid CO2.

This is just the beginning: Carbon Centric is already developing a bio-energy carbon capture and storage (BECCS) project at Kirkenær together with Solør Bioenergi, aiming to capture 32,000 tons of biogenic CO₂ per year and generate high-quality CDR certificates from 2028.

“This is a landmark day for Carbon Centric, for Rakkestad – and for the climate.” – Fredrik Häger, CEO of Carbon Centric
